The benchmark 10-year yield was down 5.5 basis points in afternoon trading at 1.3221%, continuing declines from Monday and reaching as low as 1.3205% during the session.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note dropped to 1.768%, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was also lower at 2.211%. The 10 year treasury yield is included on the longer end of the yield curve. Many analysts will use the 10 year yield as the "risk free" rate when valuing the markets or an individual security.
